Role of Gut-Brain Axis in the Aetiology of Neurodevelopmental Disorders with Reference to Autism

چکیده
It is quite known that defects in brain function especially in children usually may result in neuro-developmental disorders such as intellectual disability, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), autism, and learning disabilities which is reflected in disabilities to communicate, move or behave. These symptoms usually change with age, although some children may develop permanent disabilities. Diagnosis and treatment of neurodevelopmental disorders often involves a combination of professional therapy, pharmaceuticals, and homeand school-based programs, though, achievement of successful results is difficult [1].

The microbiota-gut-brain axis and its potential therapeutic role in autism spectrum disorder.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a series of neurodevelopmental disorders that are characterized by deficits in both social and cognitive functions. Although the exact etiology and pathology of ASD remain unclear, a disorder of the microbiota-gut-brain axis is emerging as a prominent factor in the generation of autistic behaviors. Clinical studies have shown that gastrointestinal symptoms and ...
متن کاملP 115: Potential Therapeutic Targets Related to Neuroinflammation in Treatment and Prevention of Autism
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a mental condition, present from early childhood, characterized by great difficulty in communicating and forming relationships with others and using language. In the last four decades many studies have shown that immune responses in different regions of brain play an important role in ASD pathogenicity. A conservative estimate based on the research suggests tha...
متن کاملInteraction between Intestinal Microbiota and Serotonin Metabolism
Gut microbiota regulates the production of signaling molecules, such as serotonin or 5-Hydroxytryptamine: 5-HT in the host. Serotonin is a biogenic amine that acts as a neurotransmitter in the gut and brain. There is a perfect interaction between human gastrointestinal microbiota and the serotonin system. The gut microbiota plays an important role in the serotonin signaling pathways through the...
متن کاملProbiotic supplementation improves the cognitive function and the anxiety-like behaviors in the stressed rats
Objective(s): Prenatal stresses increase incidence of neurodevelopmental disorders and influence cognitive abilities. Glucocorticoids are released in stress condition as endpoint activation of hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Evidence indicates a cross-talk between gut microbiota and brain function. This study assesses the effect of probiotic supplementation ...

Cognitive disorders are one of the major public health issues in older population worldwide. Problems in forming and storing new memories, short-term memory impairment, and other cognitive problems are common symptoms of cognitive disorders that have no definite treatment yet. Recent studies have shown an association between gut microbiota and cognitive impairments described as microbiota-gut-...
